The Pretend Princess Diaries: The First Chapter

Hello and welcome to The Pretend Princess Diaries blog!

Let's start with the basics. My name is Jessica Jade, and I am a 21 year old Magazine Journalism student at Cardiff University.

You might be wondering why I have decided to start a blog and could be speculating about its name. Put quite simply, before starting my MA in Magazine Journalism, I hardly knew how to switch on a Mac computer. Being a History graduate, lover of books, archives, pen, paper and all things Victorian, I was just as likely to win an Oscar, climb Mount Everest and marry Prince Harry than start a digital blog. But hey, look at me now. I work on a Mac computer almost every day, and while my ability to charm the most eligible bachelor on the planet has not improved, I have learned the basic principles of digital journalism, departed the familiar territory of Victorian Britain and entered the blogosphere.

The name of the blog comes from my strong affinity with Princess Mia from the Princess Diaries. I went through the whole frizzy hair, braced-face stage and public speaking once made me want to emigrate to Mars. My grandmother is as sassy and fabulous as Julie Andrews and I am generally an anxious, uncoordinated lady with a tendency to find myself playing the protagonist in interesting, comical and unexpected adventures.

This tale is one of a young woman who is eternally trying to emulate the grace and class of Kate Middleton, but is forever destined to play the role of Bridget Jones.

As of yet, I have not been told that I am heir to a small kingdom, and I am still waiting for Chris Pine to sweep me off my feet. But, this is just the first chapter, and I hope you enjoy reading along as I write my 'Once Upon an Awkward Adventure'.....
